About Me

After winning the Elwell scholarsip I studied piano and accompanying at the Royal Manchester College of Music (now the Royal Northern College of Music). I gained the ARMCM with distinction and the GRSM with an endorsement for recital playing. In 1999 I completed a Master's degree for music teachers in private practice (Mtpp) with the University of Reading. Over the years I have had considerable experience as a soloist, accompanist and piano duettist.

I have worked as a piano teacher for many years both privately and for the Sheffield College of Education. My pupils, who have ranged from young beginners to advanced students of diploma standard, have achieved a 100% pass rate in their graded examinations. An extremely high proportion achieved either Merit or Distinction and a number of them have been awarded the Winifred Liversedge prize for excellence in their Grade 8 exam.

For many years I was Head of Music at Tapton School, Sheffield where I taught pupils of all abilities and gained a wide experience of GCSE and 'A' level exams. I instigated and ran a great variety of extra-curricular instrumental and choral groups. Some of my Tapton pupils who were also my piano students have gone on to pursue careers in music in various schools and universities including Chetham's Music School and the Royal College of Music.

I am currently Secretary of the Incorporated Society of Musicians in Sheffield (www.ism.org) and for several years was their Chairman.
