Children:
Lessons take place at my home and are generally weekly and last for 45 minutes. (I do not do home visits.) Beginners start with 30 minutes and graduate to 45 minutes as soon as they are ready. The changeover varies between pupils but usually takes place when they have reached a stage of readiness to start preparation for the Grade 1 exam. Exams, however, are never compulsory. If at all possible, I like one parent of a beginner to be present for the first few lessons.

Adults:
There can be no hard and fast rules about lesson length and frequency for adults. Their aims, their differing standards of playing, motivation and time available for practice all need to be taken into consideration. For some a 30-minute lesson is adequate; others may wish to have a longer lesson less frequently and some pupils prefer not to have a regular time at all. As the length and complexity of the music studied increases, longer lessons become appropriate.

Lessons need to be attended regularly for maximum benefit.
